ARTIST STATEMENT
Boldizsár Lukácsi (b. 1998, Budapest) is a contemporary sculptor based in Hungary. His practice investigates the intersections of light, perception, and architectural space through rigorous abstract forms.
Drawing on the conceptual framework of the Luminous Cosmos, Lukácsi explores fundamental polarities: strength and vulnerability, rigidity and fluidity, distance and connection. By bringing together geometric precision and organic fluidity, his work challenges the boundaries between physical volume and visual emptiness.
Light operates simultaneously as material, subject, and perceptual force within his practice, continually altering the relationship between the sculpture, the architectural environment, and the viewer.
Through the calculated use of transparency, reflection, refraction, and optical distortion, the sculptures undergo constant phenomenological shifts based on the viewer’s movement and changing ambient light. Lukácsi’s work is deeply rooted in this fluid dialogue between permanent physical form and the transience of human perception.
CREATIVE PROCESS
Utilizing colored sheets of industrial glass as his primary medium, Lukácsi employs a rigorous process of multi-layered lamination to build structural volume. Each piece is subsequently hand-sculpted and refined through months of meticulous cold-working and hand-polishing. This exacting method grants the artist absolute control over internal refraction and surface luminosity. The gradual, subtractive shaping of the material ultimately dictates the final, delicate equilibrium between structural order, light dynamics, and spatial intervention.
